Changes to Google Play Movies & TV on certain smart TVs

0 Recommended Answers 146 Replies 3620 Upvotes Starting 6/15/2021, the Google Play Movies & TV app will no longer be available on Roku, Samsung, LG, and Vizio smart TVs. The YouTube app will be your new home for movies and shows.¹ Just log in with your Google account in the YouTube app today, you’ll have access to all of your past purchases, and will be able to browse, purchase, and rent new content.²
Here are a few more things to be aware of:
- All of your past purchases will be available on YouTube.
- Your Google Play credits can be used on YouTube to make purchases.
- Play Family Library purchases can be viewed on YouTube but purchases made on YouTube do not support family sharing. Purchases made from the Google Play Movies & TV website or app will continue to support family sharing.
- Your Watchlist is not available on YouTube, but you can set up Playlists.

This change sucks. I don't want my kids to have access to YouTube and now in order for them to get to our family library they have to go through YouTube. Seriously this really sucks. The parent controls on YouTube are horrible. Really disappointed by this change.

YouTube does not support 5.1 dolby like Google Movies does... This is bogus smh

I hated when my music was put into youtube due the amount of ads and I can only do he same things I did on google music by paying for a "premium" subscription which I will not do.
Now you are moving this to youtube?!! Personally, you just make me rethink using ANY of your services. Thinking about changing my default browser out of chrome at this point.
I don't know why this sudden shift but Google has just lost my business.

Content on GooglePlay movies supported Dolby DIgital, it appears we have lost that with the move to Youtube. Clearly that is a downgrade in service and quality on the films that we have purchased?

This is b.s the app sucked but at least i could get some of my 4k blu ray codes to upgrade on the google play movies app but if you make us use youtube are you going to implement my dolby vision and regular hdr movies to the app because my library in youtube just look like a youtube video with no info under my movies telling me its hdr 10 or dolby vision and i hope atmos will be available. Apple are so far ahead of you with ease of use and all my 4k movie codes from my 4k blu ray movies i bought have all upgraded and most in dolby vision and atmos.When i have maybe 26 of my 60 movies that unfortunately i had to use google play to put in my codes and i dread when i dont get apple as a choice and have to use you. I better not lose dolby vision hdr or regular hdr on my movies because i just tried what you are telling folks to do once the app is gone and when i open for example Shazaam on my tvs youtube it just starts playing and i get no dolby vision hdr. I really hope you guys have thought about this and i cant believe i even have to ask but you folks have a terrible track record with anything movie wise. So there will be updates to youtube to make our library look different with information like hdr and sound like dolby atmos. I really hope you dont disappoint me because i wont stop and neither will others so think this through and please do it right or not at all
